Book has a complete, very good clean bright unclipped dj shows very light color loss at still sharp tips and some light fading on the spine title. Jacket looks good in new archival mylar. The literature of the natural history of the fox is very small. We know a great deal about the hunted fox; comparatively little (to be truthful, very little indeed) about the fox himself. This is a book about the fox, and it covers every aspect of his life and habits, food, breeding and habitat and it shows that despite centuries of relentless persecution by human beings, the fox remains uncowed. In fact he is moving over to the offensive. The spread of surburbia has brought fresh opportunities to this most accomplished of scavengers who has long survived and flourished in a hostile countryside. The fox's adaptability and sheer effrontery assure him of a place in our rapidly changing society. Brian Vessey - Fitzgerald is the best of all possible people to tell this up - to - date story. As a practical naturalist he has few equals. More important even than this, he has a gift of lending others his eyes so that they, too, can glimpse the leaf - brown shadow of Reynard sneaking silently about his splendidly nefarious business.
