Uncommon first edition hardcover in pine green cloth covered, beveled boards with blindstamped black and gilt thistles, field flowers and grasses behind a 8 sided gold 'sign' with the title and author's name on it. Spine ends bumped and rubbed, tips still fairly sharp. Cloth shows color loss at tips and along spine edges near gutter, three horizontal lines on the cover where the cloth has lifted just slightly. Book has all edges of page block rich gilt, dark brown matte pastedowns and endpapers, tidy gift dedication and small dime sized watermark near foot of frt hinge on the following cream colored page. No marks in the rest of the unpaginated (18pp) text, printed on the front side of the hefty almost cardstock leaves. All is clean and crisp and is solidly bound, no loose leaves or shaky hinges. Includes a delicately drawn landscape frontis and 15 engraved illustrations by James D. Smillie. Dreamy poetry and gentle pastoral scenes. "Once more upon the Frith of Clyde, Once more upon the dancing sea, From out the land-locked harbor wide, Our "Angela" sails right merrily; Old Arran rises on our right, Her mountains bathed in sunset light, While toward the coast the vision turns, And rests upon the Land of Burns".
