First edition, first printing hardcover in red textured paper covered boards with bright gilt spine title. An addition into the Small Oxford Books series, it is not ex-library, it shows sharp tips and barely brushed spine ends, the 112 pp text is crisp and unmarked. Unclipped original dust wrapper has a sunned backstrip but white title is still (barely) legible. Lovely gift book, the perfect size to tuck into a Christmas stocking: 8" x 4" x 1/2". Illustrated with a myriad of black and white line drawings such as the one on the jacket. It contains, prose, instruction, opinion, humor and more all about the fox, the hounds, the field, the staff, etc., etc. From the dj flap: "Fox-hunting is a sport that inspires strong passions. The views of those who love fox-hunting, and of those who regard it as socially unacceptable are represented here, from Sir Gawain and the Green Knight to Jilly Cooper by way of Anthony Trollope and Siegfried Sassoon, Lord Cardigan and the Duke of Wellington. For them hunting was a relaxation, but did you know that it also promotes psychological stability and is an antidote to lust??
