Red cloth covered hardcover with gilt titles on frt cover and spine, with brown, green and black illustration of a bear in a vinyard, hugging a post that is holding up the grape vine and ends at the bottom of the title box. All around the bear are animals, both domestic and wild as this is one of the Animal Autobiography series, this one told in first 'fox' person. Backstrip is similarly illustrated with the scrolling grape vines in like hues that show a rabbit, a squirrel and a mouse on each level of the vine. Light sunning and a few light spots on the frt board and backstrip but still displays well on the shelf. Spine ends rubbed with a couple of short tears in the cloth and a few short splits in the cloth at both gutters. Both areas have had some amateur repair work done on them so they are closed and we fitted this tome with a removable 4mm archival polyester wrapper to protect it going forward. One tip bumped, others are fairly sharp showing light rubs with one board just starting to peek through the cloth. Endpapers are fresh, clean, and unmarked. No writing found and all pages and illustrations attached and present. Tissue-guarded frontis shows a fox that has been chased over a ledge by a pack of foxhounds and a terrier. The fox has landed on an cliff edge and is looking up at the hounds and across the void at the little terrier with the black head and white body. I see a few short, closed tears in page fore-edges or along foot are glued closed, nothing taped here. This first of eight plates has two tiny spots in the margins, other plates are clear and without damage and some are truly stunning little masterpieces. An occasional light fingerprint in page margin may be found, but the text is clean, tight and bright. Top edge gilt (Teg). Text clean in the text save for light foxing and a bit of soil on edge of page block. Contents page fore-edge is tatty. 224 pp biography written from the point of view of the fox describes: Early Memories/ Education/ Friends and Foes/ Captivity/ The Cares of a Family/ The Great Winter/ A Reign of Terror/ Treed/ The Great Run. Please ask for photo if none shows here.
