Possible first edition hardcover, states 1939 without any further dates or printings mentioned. Lovely grass green cloth covered boards with sharp tips and bumped spine ends. Head of spine shows a small fade mark from matching chip in dust jacket, black titles still well defined. Tidy ink name at head of fep, few scattered foxing spots on preliminaries, remainder of 107 pp text is crisp and unmarked with a dozen full page charcoal line drawings and a myriad of smaller vignettes throughout by Peter Biegel. Original, unclipped DJ in new mylar has some repairs on reverse, two small chips at head of frt panel, a long but neat closed tear starting at foot of frt gutter and a micro chip at head of frt flap fold, color loss only at lower tip of same. Rear dj panel is complete, shows very light soil and lists 47 other offerings from The Junior 'Country Life' Library. More than presentable, a gift quality volume. A work of sporting fiction with many facts included on the "Galloping Game". This is a story with a difference. It is not just another riding story, but one in which the power of a charm is seen working to help Pat in unexpected ways. Polo and horses are the background, with Pat and a country-house family in the foreground.
