This is the dramatic and heartwarming tale of Black Beauty's life-from his idyllic days on a country squire's estate to his harsh fate as a London cab horse. Not originally written as a children's story, but rather a wake up call to the late 18th century people of England who used & abused horses in their work or private hours. This book was responsible for the beginnings of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or SPCA. Only later did it grow into one of the most published books on the planet and has 'gentled' in its message so that children the world over have come to know and cherish this story with its important message.
