Collectible, gift quality first edition, first printing hardcover in navy blue cloth covered boards with bright gilt spine title and circle illustration in gilt showing Black Beauty resting under a tree in his field. Spine ends and tips still sharp. Not exlib, No former owner's names, no tears or soil anywhere. 469 pp text is crisp, tight, bright and uncreased. This hefty tome is *profusely* illustrated in color and b/w drawings throughout as well as many full page, full color painting reproductions on glossy paper by a myriad of gifted artists, illustrators, and ad men (because of reproduced antique advertisements used within). Unclipped dust jacket shows negligible color loss at foot of spine, else as new and now in protective clear mylar to keep it this way going forward. An annotated version (with so much excellent information) of the children's classic about a horse in nineteenth-century England recounting his experiences with both good and bad masters. Reprinted from the 1915 edition illustrated by Lucy Kemp-Welch. This is the first J. A. Allen edition 1989. Will require additional postage for priority mail or international destinations.
