The author's first and very scarce work in an uncommon professionally reproduced color illustrated dj from the Scribner's edition that displays well with handsome red fox mask on frt panel. This is a very neat former library copy that appears to have not been taken out much if at all. It is the first edition but has no date and is a wartime compliant volume printed on lighter weight paper. Blue leatherette covered hard boards with yellow title spine has a tidy call number on foot of backstrip and an unused, petite handmade library card and pocket on frt pastedown. It is in excellent shape with sharp tips and lightly bumped spine ends. One library stamp on copyright page, else clean and unmarked save for one small soil spot in the margin of one page. The dust jacket shows no library stamps anywhere, no sticker pulls, etc. Displays well despite light surface soil and a soil line along the front dj fore edge from handling on the flap fold. 249 pg text is tight and bright, inner hinges fine, no tears or writing within the crisp text. Black and white frontis is an attractive art reproduction of foxhound "Godfrey" (S. & W. W.) with three other glossy plates inside featuring six other foxhounds of note. There is much ado about foxhounds herein as this well-known personality in the hunting world shares his abundant knowledge of fox-hound breeding. In experience in hunting hounds in the field, he likewise occupies a high place among amateur huntsmen. He has been a master of many famous British packs in the course of his hunting career. Although practically all of his hunting life has been spent in England, Mr. Bell is an American and his book will garner interest for all devotees of the chase. This is a book of memories and reflections, mainly concerning the sport to which he has devoted so much of his life. There are many anecdotes of men, horses and hounds, with a few tabulated hound pedigrees which will be of much service to hound breeders. The exhaustive list of contents includes: Foreword, Holidays, Well Vale, Southwold, The Warwickshire Foxhounds, The Brocklesby (The Earl of Yarborough's), Lord Henry Bentinck, The Pytchley, The Grafton, The Bicester, Cambridge Days, The Milton (Mr. George Fitzwilliams), Melton-Mowbray, Quorn, Cottesmore, J.
