hardcover in lemon yellow pebbled paper with grey titles designed to look like leather. Book tips bumped but not rubbed, bit of age toning around periphery of boards. 160 pp text is tight, bright, crisp and fresh. No names, tears or soil inside. Unclipped jacket in new mylar shows small chips at four corners of frt board, and three closed tears and two creases running across the face of the brown horse in the portrait on the dj frt panel. The Five Circles tells the true story of Cilroy, a Canadian half-bred hunter, who accomplished what most of the world's greatest horsemen believed impossible, and in doing so, helped to bring a coveted award to Canada (for the first time). Member of a team of three sent from Canada to compete in the Three-Day Trials at the 1956 Olympic Equestrian Events in Stockholm, Cilroy cleared the toughest course in the history of those events without a fall or refusal. Against a background of the lovely Ontario countryside, and later of the excitement and color of the Olympics themselves, Barbara May has given us the thrilling story in Cilroy's own words, woven together with a thread of fantasy. Here we meet many other delightful horse characters: Cilroy's trainer, Fred Hughes, whose devotion made the triumph possible, and three outstanding Canadian riders of the team and their trainer, Anatole Pieregorodzki, world-renowned horseman; and Tad - whom we shall let the readers meet for themselves. Everyone will love this story of a real hero among horses who helped to bring to Canada the Olympic Bronze Medal with its "Five Circles".
