1853 date is imprinted on the foot of the title page, copyright page states 1850 as does the Testimonial from the Connecticut Historical Society. A worn copy in brown ruled paper to look like leather. Illustrated with b/w steel engravings, one loose and layed in. Book is missing the backstrip covering that had the title, author, etc., all corners rubbed. Fold-out map opposite the title page is tatty on the edges and has a crescent shaped, taped closed tear. Foxing present throughout. 509 page block is sewn in, holding fine save for aforementioned loose plate. Ugly but solid working copy, all there but not pretty. Priced accordingly.
