No date on this Grosset & Dunlap reprint, first two dates on verso title page are 1914 (copyrights obtained by The Bobbs-Merrill Co.,) and renewed by Ethel M. Curwood in 41. No names, tears or soil inside. Head of 244 pp text is dyed burgundy. Brown 'tweedy' paper covered boards with small split in paper at spine head. Story title and decorative edging on backstrip title. Famous Dog Stories and G, D, with a thistle flower separating these two initials are all that is decorating the front tweedy paper covered boards. Spine ends and upper tips bumped, lower tips still sharp. Unclipped (and unpriced) color illustrated dj in new mylar shows a couple short closed tears, a few short chips on frt and rear panels, plus head and foot, plus 1/2" of loss at head of back strip. Kazan looks like a brown husky dog because he is 1/4 wolf dog and 3/4 husky. Only one who loves dogs and knew the souls of the wild things of the forest could have written so eloquent and so stirring a book, told in a way that makes it appeal to readers young and old. A tale to set the blood tingling, like Jack London's "Call of the Wild" and "White Fang".
