Gift quality reprint hardcover in beige cloth covered boards with brown title box on backstrip with gold lettering and image of a lariat & rifle, along with a brown cow skull on cover. Spine ends lightly bumped, tips still sharp. Not exlib, no tears or soil inside the tight and bright 242 pp text (with head of page block dyed brown). Illustrated endpapers with drawing of wild horses in brown do have an adorable little girl's bookplate showing a b/w illustration of a girl having tea at a small table. Un-clipped color illustrated dust wrapper has a two short chips at head of frt panel and head of spine, light rubbing/color loss to tips of dj with four scratches on backstrip, the green title is barely legible against the grey sky illustration backdrop, Rear panel and flap are complete. Still displays very well in new mylar showing a yellow-shirted, big western hat wearin' cowboy rustlin up a stray longhorn that is running over dirt, rocks and gullies. "Cow Country" is where cattle run loose in open territory, identified by brands and earmarks, not by names or place. There are many horses on this range, as many horses as cattle, and even some sheep. But it's always called cow country by the cowboys. There is much laughter in this book - as in the story about the "high-class foreigner" who bought a cow outfit and tried to turn it into his idea of what it should be, as in the story about a "show-hand" among the cowboys. There is an absorbing article on wild horses, and what becomes of them, and a delightful account of what happens when a cowboy marries, and much more.
