Near fine First edition of this collection by Clifton Fadiman in pine green cloth covered boards with silver title spine and lighter green guy running with the torch on spine and ML (Modern Library) initials on frt board. Tips and spine ends lightly bumped. No rubbing, no broken cloth, book is square and straight. Red letter H in a red circle stamped on blank fep. No names, tears, dog-ears or soil inside. Very good condition unclipped dj has some soil in upper right portion of frt panel, and along front flap fold, A Modern Library GIANT in red box near foot of dj spine, and G11 printed below it (See Image). The seventeen short stories chosen by Clifton Fadiman for this volume represents the flowering of Henry James' writing in this field over a span of thirty-two years - from 1877 to 1909. In that time these tales brought recognition from a discerning following in America and Europe, if not a huge popular acclaim.
