1st edition, 1st printing hardcover in orange cloth boards with sharp tips and bumped spine ends. Unclipped dj in new mylar has a call tag on foot of spine and a wrinkle, rub, 1/2" tear at upper rear dj flap fold, else fine. Tape marks on endpapers, pocket and all pages present. 96 pp text is tight, clean and illustrated with b/w photos by the author and Shepard Foreman. Told in first person from the point of view of a ten-year-old boy growing up in Pontal de Coruripe, a small fishing village in north-east Brazil. Bico lives in an area of extreme poverty but is uplifted by participating in rich cultural traditions. Through his eyes the reader joins the villagers at market and takes part in a procession for Sao Pedro and a festival for Iemanja, the goddess of the sea.
