Stunning copy in dark green cloth and bright gilt title spine. Spine ends barely bumped, tips remain sharp. Original dust jacket has no chips or tears and displays beautifully in new mylar. 290 pp text crisp and unmarked. Only flaw inside is a former owner's tidy gift dedication on blank fep. Remembering recounts the modern history of Southeast Florida with particular focus on the communities of South Palm Beach County from 1894-1998. During those years the population of all southeast Florida increased from about 1000 persons to more than 4,000,000. Remembering describes the experiences of the first settlers, their efforts to cope with rapid and continuing change, and what it was like to grow up in a farming village by the sea that became part of a burgeoning upscale international resort. Remembering is not a history textbook. It contains some hearsay, and omits some information a textbook would include. It is meant to be a light-hearted storytelling that brings events and people of the past to life. Some stories may include hazy remembrances, but most, if not all, have been corroborated by at least one other source, including archive research and interviews with historians.
