1st US edition hardcover in navy cloth covered boards with bright gilt image of man in tails and top hat jumping a three bar post and rail on frt cover and bright gilt title on somewhat darkened backstrip. Color is really navy, not royal blue as the camera flash makes it seem. Corners bumped and rubbed, cloth on both ends of spine is tatty with a 1/2" closed tear at head. Super rare dust wrapper from the Methuen first UK edition of the same year is professionally reproduced, has a somewhat darkened spine but is complete, displays well in new mylar and will keep this volume in protected shape going forward. 207 pp text is crisp and unmarked save for foxing on both endpprs, frt hinge paper cracked but holding fine, and a personal sporting library embossed name (no ink) at foot of foxed fep, else crisp and unmarked. Book is profusely illustrated with 44 smaller pen & ink line drawings and a glossy, tissue-guarded full color frontis portrait of the author. Some of Koch's drawings are based on "Examples of the Viennese High School in the Seventeenth Century". A solid instruction book on basic horse care, basic veterinary care, various types of riding, equipment used, fox hunting, side-saddle riding for ladies, the forward seat for men and much more.
