The Priest and his workman Balda is one of the folktales that Alexander Pushkin jotted down at his country estate in 1924. The simpleton priest needs help round the farm and finds Balda who eats for four and works for seven. The only payment Balda asks is food and the right to hit his master three times over the head at year's end. So as not to have to pay Balda, the priest issues impossible tasks but Balda finds a way to get the jobs done.
