Plain blue paper covered slipcase shows heavy wear at tips, 3.75" split along lower edge and some bits of color missing has kept this book solid and straight. 346 pp text is tight and unmarked. Apologia pamphlet laid in about other titles planned for this series but for numerous reasons, cannot be included at this time. Introduction by William McFee. Illustrated with engravings in color by Hans Alexander Mueller.

No date, intro dated 1831. The Waverley Novels. A beautiful book in brown cloth with ornate black decoration, a column with ferns, thistles and various fauna on frt board and backstrip. Tips and spine ends fairly sharp, Former owner's name on dark sage green endpps have made two small holes and few small marks on second blank fep. Edges of pg block darkened, Intro, first signature loose at head, delicate but attached. No loose leaves. 423 pp plus foxed publishers adverts in rear. Washington Irving says of Sir Walter Scott's writings: "His works have incorporated themselves with the thoughts and concerns of the whole civilized world.".
