MASON HAS LEATHER IN HIS BLOOD: FROM HIS FATHER AND FROM HIS GRANDSIRE AND, ALSO, THROUGH HIS THIRTY-SIX YEARS' CONNECTION WITH THE FAMILY BUSINESS. The Accoutrements of the Riding Horse VG+ 1st ED/HB/DJ Burghley Jumping Prize Award Book 1963, Trew, Cecil G.; Foreword By Maj.-Den. Geoffrey Brooke C.B., D.S.O., M.C.
16 Trew, Cecil G.; Foreword By Maj.-Den. Geoffrey Brooke C.B., D.S.O., M.C. The Accoutrements of the Riding Horse VG+ 1st ED/HB/DJ Burghley Jumping Prize Award Book 1963
London Seely Service & Co. Ltd. 1951 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good + Very Good 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall Illustrated
Gift quality first edition in rust paper covered boards with barely bumped (not rubbed) tips and spine ends. Foxing on endpps but text clear. Crossed out name on fep. Professionally reproduced dj in new mylar with a chip at head of backstrip has taken half of the title but still displays well. with micro chips at tips, light age-toning on white portion of white/brown illustrated dj. 160 pp. In many ways this is a remarkable book, not only for the exquisite drawings it contains but also because the research required in tracing the development of equine equipment. This leads the reader down many interesting, and sometimes unforseen bypaths; the evolution of roads and transport; warfare, communication between one country and another, court fashion, sport, travel, trade, religion and superstition, all have played their part in moulding the horse as we know it today and its accoutrements. The age at which man first began to tame the horse and equip it with some kind of primitive saddle is unknown, but there is a small equestrian figure in the Metropolitain Museum of Art, NY, showing reins leading from the rider's hands to the horse's mouth, and traces of what may well be harness. The figure is Egyptian and dates from 2000-1800 BC. Our books are cleaned and mylar changed on dj's whenever possible. We gift wrap every book at no charge. Offered from a five star, full-time professional bookseller and proud members of the Virginia Antiquarian Booksellers Association. Your complete satisfaction is our number 1 priority.

A Guide to the Conservation and Restoration of Objects Made Wholly or in Part of Leather. 1st ED/HB/DJ/XLIB, Waterer, John W., RDI, FSA, FIIC Conservator and Honorary Secretary of The Museum of Leathercraft London and Walsall
18 Waterer, John W., RDI, FSA, FIIC Conservator and Honorary Secretary of The Museum of Leathercraft London and Walsall A Guide to the Conservation and Restoration of Objects Made Wholly or in Part of Leather. 1st ED/HB/DJ/XLIB
London G. Bell & Sons 1972 0713518227 / 9780713518221 First Edition Hardcover Very Good Reproduction Book Photographs
Former library copy with no call tags on back strip of book or professionally reproduced dust wrapper. DJ has no chips or tears but does have a light paper pull on foot of back strip from removed sticker (not an eye sore at all). Light tape marks on boards, former owners name and discard stamp on fep which is starting 1 inch at head of gutter, discreet lib stamp at foot of title and one other page, else crisp and unmarked. Illustrated with photos, includes a Selected Bibliography. In his previous work, Leather Craftsmanship, the author dealt with the manufacture of leather and the history of objects made with leather. He now turns to the preservation of these objects; a subject which, as curator of the Museum of Leather craft and an expert restorer himself, he is more than qualified to write on. A highly recommended and much collectible work.
