Pipe Dreams About Leather and Saddles (Riding, Cycling, Driving and Pack) Dry Facts Realated in a Carefree Manner, Mason, Leonard K.
11 Mason, Leonard K. Pipe Dreams About Leather and Saddles (Riding, Cycling, Driving and Pack) Dry Facts Realated in a Carefree Manner
England Walsall Lithographic Co. Ltd 1950 First Edition Hardcover Fine Very Good + Book 12mo - over 6¾ Signed by Author(s)
1st edition hardcover in jacket. A very important work published in and by the Heart of the English Leather industry: Walsall Lithographic LTD, Walsall, England 1950. Presentation copy signed from author on fep "To Rotarian S.S. Darby with best wishes from Leonard K. Mason July 13th 1956" with additional photo illustrated publisher's promo pamphlet laid in. A rare collectible in professionally photo-reproduced dj showing color loss and rubbing but no major loss. Displays well in new mylar. 84 pp. Mr. Mason has leather in his blood: from his father and from his grandsire and, also, through his thirty-six years connection with the family business. Rumor has it that even his first teeth were cut on a piece of leather! Educated at Solihull and Birmingham University, he was articled to a large firm of engineers at Wolverhampton, and carried out breakdown work for them in various part of England and Wales. His entire lack of technical experience of the leather trade in his early days necessitated consultation with all kinds of experts and books, wherefrom was gleaned a bumper harvest of facts and fancies. In Pipe Dreams, salient details are, therefore, described in homely language, but with a puckish humor which softens their dryness while emphasizing their point. In Pipe Dreams, "Leather" people are put wise to the activities of their fellow craftsmen in other branches of this trade, and may receive unexpected sidelights on their own jobs. The rider, be he cyclist or horseman, can gain information useful when selecting a saddle for his own special needs. Contents include: Pipe Dreams about Leather/ Riding Saddles/ Horse Controls/ Cycle Saddles/ Cycle History/ Horse-Transport/ Harness, Packsaddlery/ Contemplation Upon Awakening. 7 3/4" tall at spine. 84 pgs with some great engravings of old leather tanning machines, vintage saddlery etc. in the rear
