Soutendijk, Margaret Johnny-Cake 1st ED PB Young Readers Press, Inc. 1969 First Edition Soft Cover Good No Jacket Text is tight and browned with 1" lower page tears at spine on the first 4 pages or so. Surface worn wrapper is rubbed with color loss, No names, two very short tears at first ffew outer page edges, still a presentable copy of a scarce title. No other date listed, more than likely the first printing of 1969. A farmer's wife makes a Johnny-cake and leaves her little son in charge of watching him while she and her husband go to tend their garden, the boy is playing and not paying much attention to the stove when a ruckus occurs and the johnny-cake races out of the oven and through the door. He ends up outrunning the boy, his parents and several folks in the village, as well as a few wild animals including a bear and a pack of wolves until he comes upon a fox who feigns hard of hearing and asks the johnny-cake to come and tell the story of how he has outrun the neighborhood and the fox snaps him into his mouth. Humorous tale about 3 city folk who visit their "simple" country neighbors with a plan to help & wind up needing assistance themselves! Price:
