First edition Illust by Treece 159pg Tidy ex-lib illustrated hardcover. Text tight and bright w/rep removed. Crossed out name on frt pastdn and fep. Unclipped DJ in brand new mylar has one call tag on backstrip, no chips or tears, displays beautifully. Marcus, son of a Roman Tribune, is brought to Britain at the age of seven. He grows up with the Celts, learning their languages and dialects, their customs and superstitions. When Marcus is in his teens he is named a tribune. He is reluctant, but accepts his appointment and is schooled to be a warrioir. In a series of conflicts, Marcus fights Queen Boadiceas's men, and later becomes one of her chieftains. He witnesses great battles and barbaric slaughter on both sides, and sees most of his friends die. In the end he comes to the conclusion that he must decide his own future course and has the courage to face the consequencs of his decision. Tight bright copy appears unread. Light edgewear to glossy uncreased covers, one small stray pen mark on rear cover, 176 pg text browning but not brittle. First page starting to separate from glued page block at foot 1". Many full page b/w illustrations by Christine Page. Life wasn't easy for a Norse boy in A.D. 750 and when harald Sigurdson saw his home in flames he decided to take his living from those who had plenty.
