Bullen, Frank T. First Mate The Cruise Of The Catchalot Round The World After Sperm Whales NY D. Appleton and Co. 1899 First Edition Pictorial Cover Very Good + No Jacket Illustrated A very good copy in pictorial cloth boards depicting several men in a small whaling boat on high seas in pursuit of a sperm whale. Very crisp, clean, and tight throughout with old ink price on fep, vintage name sticker on inside cover. 379 pgs. A true first edition with "1899" on the title page and "Authorized Edition" on the copyright page. Frank Thomas Bullen (1857-1915), British novelist, was born in London, April 5 1857. At the age of 9 he left school and took up work as an errand boy. In 1869 he went to sea and travelled to all parts of the world in various capacities including that of chief mate. "In the following pages an attempt has been made---it is believed for the first time---to give an account of the cruise of a South Sea whaler from the seaman's standpoint". It is easer reading than Moby Dick and probably more exciting as far as whaling goes. Price:
