NY Charles Scribner's Sons 1949 Reprint Hardcover Near Fine Reproduction Book Edwards, Lionel 
1st US edition, undated, circa 1949 in original red cloth with gilt foxhound on frt board and title on backstrip. Professionally reproduced dust wrapper with art after an illustration by Cecil Aldin is off the Eyre & Spottiswoode, England edition. It is very lightly rubbed at extrems but displays beautifully. 584 pp without names, tears or soil but printed on very thin paper. Inner hinges fine. Illus by Lionel Edwards with 27 line drawings. A lovely little pocket sized compendium to take on a plane or slip into a pocket for a portable sporting break whenever you desire. Plenty of stories here to entertain the field or armchair sportsman. An anthology of poems, anecdotes and quotations from the rich variety of fox-hunting literature from a wide range of contributors including Cecil Aldin, "B.B.", Duke of Beaufort, Wilfred Blunt, Winston Churchill, Lionel Edwards, Henry Fielding, "Mr Jorrocks", Rudyard Kipling, General Montgomery, "Nimrod", Will Ogilvie, William Shakespeare, "Snaffles", Arthur Stringer, R.S. Surtees, etc.etc. The volume is divided into seven sections: The sport of fox-hunting, the hunting country, the fox, hounds and their huntsman, hunting days, the making of good sport and fox-hunters all. Lady Apsley states in her introduction that "This has been a labour of love".
