Copyright page has: "Printed and Bound in England by Hazell Watson and Viney Ltd Aylesbury and Slough". Dimensions: 8 3/8" by 5 3/4". Blue cloth covers with gilt lettering on spine and blind-stamped title on front board. viii, [ii], 400 pages. With original dust wrapper. Condition: Stunning! binding tight, slight browning to endpapers. Internally pages clean and white. Owner’s signature, ink number and contemporary bookseller’s rubber stamp on front endpaper. Cloth covers very clean, corners still sharp. Some light spotting to top page edges. Insignificant pen mark on fore page edges. Original dust wrapper has a small 3/4" and 3/8" chip at head , 3/8" and 1/4" chips and tiny closed tears at tail of dust wrapper spine and corners. 1/2" tear in front panel. Some light rubbing at extremities now protected in archival mylar cover. The 1st printing of the Alcoholics Anonymous 'big book' in the USA was April 1939. Although AA had been in England since 1947 It was not until 1954 that they printed their own edition of the big book. The UK book has the same contents as the 1939 American edition other than the printing/publishing info on the title page/copyright page and note on page vii pertaining to the re-publishing in the 'sterling area' IE: UK. This is the rare 1954 first edition as later editions listed the edition numbers on the copyright page.
