19 Anderson, C. W. Tomorrow's Champion. 1st ED HB/DJ
NY The Macmillan Co. 1946 First Edition Hardcover Good + Very Good Book Anderson, C. W.
Med brown cloth hardcover has surface wear, some indentations and a small break in cloth on rear board. Boards shaken. Gift dedication on lightly soiled end papers: Happy Birthday to Scotty, Jimmy Baker 1954. Page block shaken, hinges wobbly but all pages holding fine. One repaired closed tear on one page does not affect reading the story. Rear hinge cracked w/webbing showing. All in all, a decent first edition copy with stunning b/w pencil art throughout. Unclipped professionally reproduced color illustrated dj has chips missing from head & foot of spine, lower tip has a 1 1/2" open tear, lower edge has two 1/2" closed tears and there is color fading along spine, upper & front edges. Clean crisp text and stunning lithographs. No tears, writing or soil. No matter how brilliant the performance of a fine horse may be, that is only part of the story. What bloodlines produced the speed and stamina, and what was the training that brought out the honesty and consistency, may well prove the most fascinating part of the story. Here C. W. Anderson tells that story from the beginning - a young colt stands a little shaky and uncertain and grows to be the thoroughbred champion on the track.
