Pocket neatly removed but all pages present. DJ in new mylar is a professional reproduction that displays beautifully. Paul Brown's first large picture book illustrated in four colors. Young Sparkie Parker lived on a farm but dreamed of ranches, Indians and cowboys. Not Exlib, Stunning taupe colored cloth boards with brown illustration of Indian and horse on cover, brown titles on backstrip are bumped but not rubbed. Internally, the book is flawless. Creamy white endpapers show no foxing, no names, tears or soil. Original, unclipped dj shows $3.95 price on flap. Does have some rubbing and closed tears with with 1/2" chips at spine ends and a tiny chip at center of backstrip but title remains more than legible. Displays well in new mylar sleeve. An action-packed story of War Paint, a wild pony that roamed the Western prairies in early days. The story takes him from his birth to the time when he is owned by an Indian brave. Paul Brown has told the story in pictures and brief text, and every picture is spirited and full of action. Here is the colt when he first follows his mother on unsteady legs, in his first encounter with a wolf, in later encounters with fire and flood - and finally in the Indian camp.
